CD Projekt RED has been rather secretive about The Witcher 4, especially regarding its official title. However, they have assured fans that this will mark a bold new chapter in the beloved fantasy series. Currently in development under the working title Polaris, this upcoming game promises to ignite a new trilogy. Given the conclusion of The Witcher 3's expansion, Blood and Wine, many speculate that we may see a new lead character take the stage, stepping away from Geralt of Rivia, the game's original protagonist.

This theory gained traction when Doug Cockle, Geralt's voice throughout the series, confirmed that while Geralt would be featured, he would not be the main character anymore. The identity of the new protagonist remains a mystery, even to Cockle, who expressed that he was just as eager to find out.

In a recent interview featured on the YouTube channel Fall Damage, Cockle shared, "Witcher 4 has been announced, but details are scarce. We know Geralt will be involved, but to what extent. The focus won't be on him this time around, and we're still in the dark about who the new lead will be. I haven’t seen the script, and even if I did, I couldn't disclose that information! But I promise I'm being truthful—or am I?"

Many fans are speculating that Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter who played a significant role in The Witcher 3, might step into the protagonist's shoes in this new installment, especially since Geralt will still be part of the story in some form. However, such ideas are merely conjecture at this stage.

The Witcher 4 is the most actively worked-on project at CD Projekt RED, boasting a team of over 400 personnel. Though still in pre-production, the company has announced plans to transition to full production within this year.
