YouTube Music employees have gone on strike to protest a new policy that requires them to return to the office. Alphabet's union announced a strike Friday, arguing the new policy threatens the livelihoods of workers who don't live in the Austin area.

According to the Trade Union, "most of the workers were hired remotely." The strike marks the latest in an ongoing saga between YouTube Music workers and their employer, subcontractor Cognizant.

The strike is part of a campaign by the Alphabet workers' union to protect the rights of YouTube Music subcontractors. They are demanding better pay and working conditions, and an end to the new policy that requires them to return to work.

The union is also demanding "access to adequate PPE, hazard pay, and guarantees that workers' rights are respected." This is written in The Verge.

The demands of the Union came after Cognizant announced that its employees would return to the office. Many workers are concerned about the health risks of returning to work, and the union has called for them to be given the option to work from home if they choose.

Alphabet's labor union actively supports YouTube Music staff. The union said in a statement: “We stand in solidarity with workers who are standing up for their rights and the safety of their community. We will continue to fight for a better future for all workers.
